Privacy Policy

Published · Last updated

Looking for a recovery meeting is private, and RecoveryMeet is built to keep it that way. This policy explains what happens to information when you use recoverymeet.com.

The short version

  • There are no accounts, and we never ask for your name, email or phone number to find a meeting.
  • RecoveryMeet does not set its own cookies. We use Google Analytics, set up to collect as little as possible, to count visits. It is described below.
  • We use your location only to show nearby meetings, and we never store it or send it to analytics or ad services. Google may work out an approximate area from your IP address, as described below.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
  • We never ask about your health or recovery, and we do not send what you search for or choose on the site to analytics or advertisers.

Your approximate location

To show meetings near you, the site uses your approximate city, worked out from your IP address. It is used for that page view to choose which meetings to show. We do not store it, log it or attach it to you.

Your precise location, only if you ask

If you press "Use my location", your browser asks your permission first. If you allow it, we round the position to about a kilometre, use it once to find nearby meetings, and do not store it. You can turn location access off in your browser at any time.

Tools

The sobriety calculator works out your dates in your browser and does not save what you enter. The 90 in 90 tracker saves your start date and the days you mark in your browser's own storage on your device, so it is there when you come back. Neither is sent to us or to anyone else. "Start over" in the tracker, or clearing your browser data, erases it. The meeting list designer keeps your drafts and any logo you add in your browser on this device and never sends them to us.

Network and server records

Like every website, ours is delivered through servers that receive your IP address and basic request details, such as the page requested and your browser type. Our hosting and security providers use this information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and may set a short-lived security cookie for that purpose. Any server records we keep are used only for security and fixing problems, are kept only as long as that needs, and are not used to identify visitors.

Maps and links to other services

Meeting pages with a street address show a map from Google Maps, which loads from Google when you scroll to it; Google may receive your IP address and set cookies under its own policy. Directions open in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze, and online meetings open in their own video service, such as Zoom. Intergroup websites are run by those organizations. Each of these services has its own privacy policy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help people, so we can improve the site. It sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell one visit from another, and it receives your IP address, which Google uses only for a country or region level location and does not store. We have turned off Google signals, advertising features, ads personalization and data sharing with Google, and we keep analytics data for 2 months.

We send page addresses without the filters you chose, and for meeting, town, place and intergroup pages we send only the kind of page, not its name or town. We never send your location or what you search for. Analytics does not load for visitors outside the United States or in Washington or Nevada, or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. You can also use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. How Google uses this information: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

If you email us

If you write to [email protected], we use your message and address only to reply and to act on what you asked, such as correcting a listing. Ask us and we will delete your messages.

Selling and sharing

We do not sell personal information, and we never give it to treatment providers, lead buyers or marketers. We do not share it for targeted advertising. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics and ads do not load.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act and Washington's My Health My Data Act give you rights to know, access, correct and delete personal information. We hold very little: we never ask for your name, and analytics data is kept by Google for 2 months and is not linked to who you are. You can always ask at [email protected] and we will answer.

Children

The site is meant for adults and for families looking for help. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Security

The site is served only over encrypted connections, and we limit what we collect so there is little to protect in the first place.

Changes to this policy

When what the site does with information changes, we update this policy at the same time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
